Glen Mathews Profile
Glen started fly fishing some forty years ago in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa.
The bug bit instantly and the journey of complete immersion into the pursuit
began. Fly tying came soon after with the late Jack Blackman teaching him the basics.
After years of refining fresh water, Glen turned to salt water fly fishing in the 90’s along the South African Coastline. He has since spent many years targeting a multitude of species in Southern Africa with the Giant Trevally being at the top of his list. Over this time with many hundreds of hours spent in the surf zone he has mastered casting, stripping and playing of the
fish, all vital to success.
“The task seems impossible at first. However, with the right tackle, preparation and techniques, it can be done.”
Glen has been featured in local fly fishing magazines and articles showcasing some of the fish he has landed. His best fish on fly in the surf to date is a GT of 114cm FL, taken in Southern Mozambique in 2019.
After careful thought and preparation, Glen has decided to share his endless passion for the pursuit by hosting trips and after extensive exploration of the Northern Atolls of The Maldives he is happy and confident to announce dates to this spectacular destination.
